Description of Duties:

KIDS Initiative is a charitable organization that works with developing communities to by facilitating sustainable solutions to enrich the lives of children. We want a world where everyone lives more and suffers less.


PURPOSE


To relieve poverty in developing nations by developing and implementing sustainable food and water solutions, as well as providing basic amenities and necessities of life to those in need.


To advance education in developing nations on the topic of sustainable development by researching and developing education programs to be delivered within schools, universities, and community groups, and by providing education materials and supplies to schools.


To promote health in developing nations by identifying and addressing risk factors associated with diseases such as HIV/AIDS, to prevent and minimize the risk of contraction, and by providing medical supplies and equipment to hospitals, clinics, and those in need.


KIDS Initiative operates as a full functioning WORKING BOARD. A working board consists of board members who do the work of the organization. This includes administrative tasks, fundraising, accounting, grant writing, event planning, marketing, and communications, etc. It is important to note that KIDS Initiative does not operate as a governing board where members would simply oversee and guide its activities.

We can only focus on doing so when our team on the ground are driven, passionate, and innovative. We look to recruit a diverse group of individuals willing to dedicate their time to our mission and help to grow our organization into an efficient machine whose goal is to strive for a world where everyone lives more and suffers less.

Skills Required:

he role of the Education Committee Director is to develop, maintain, and execute on educational programs to assist in the overall learning of the sustainable development goals that KIDS is closely aligned with within our local Manitoban schools, universities, and community groups.





  • Develop an educational program used to support learnings in our 4 aligned sustainable development goals (SDGs); 1. No Poverty 2. Zero Hunger 4. Quality Education 6. Clean Water and Sanitation.



  • Develop a multiple session option which would foster a deeper relationship with groups, guiding them through a service-learning research project where they would determine specific SDGs of focus and a developing community of focus with the end result being to pitch the idea/program to KIDS Initiative for potential adoption.





  • Once we have built our brand and developed relationships within our school's divisions, etc. a "Dragons Den" style layout will be implemented where at the end of their project they pitch their idea to a select few board members who ask info seeking questions to better prep them for the final "Dragons Den" session. At the end of the school year, top three pitches will be identified.



  • Develop a group of volunteers focused on executing the educational program within all schools, universities, and community groups.



  • Develop a method in which you will host an orientation and training for all Educational Outreach volunteers.



  • Solicit school divisions, schools, universities, and community groups to book educational programs through KIDS.



  • Attend and present at annual MTS PD Day and other school related events to foster and build relationships with local educators.



  • Coordinate regular team meetings (i.e., weekly, biweekly, monthly, or as otherwise determined by lead) to manage and gauge progress of all committee members.



  • Monthly report to the board on all committee actions and goals.



  • Work closely with Marketing and Communications to develop and maintain a marketing strategy and necessary branded materials for promotion of the educational program.


   
Skills Gained/Related Careers:

QUALIFICATIONS & KEY COMPETENCIES




  • Preferred post secondary education with background in Education, Sustainable Development, International Development, or related fields.



  • Knowledge of the concept of Sustainable Development and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).



  • Experience working with professional educators, or those that work in the field of Education



  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, in regard to being able to communicate effectively and respectfully with educators, volunteers, and Board members.



  • Familiarity and a general understanding of the Manitoba Education System (Kindergarten to Grade 12), including the Manitoba curriculum and Education for Sustainable Development (ESD).



  • Experience leading a team of volunteers and understanding how to utilize everyone's skills to create a cohesive and nurturing team environment in order to achieve the desired outcomes of the program.



  • Organizational and time management skills to ensure tasks are being identified and achieved in a timely manner.
