A mission, vision, and a strategic plan are essential to a non-profit, but its capacity to achieve its goals is a function of effective organizational development.

Volunteer Manitoba works with non-profits and charities in all aspects of organizational development, from advising on how to start a non-profit, providing guidance in leadership and human resources, offering advice on how to effectively market services and programs, and planning and implementing policies, procedures and strategic plans.

Our Capacity Building training is designed to assist your organization or group develop and maintain effective management and organizational strategies.

Online - Volunteer Manitoba's Emerging Leaders Program

Leadership Skills for Emerging Non-Profit Leaders

The non-profit sector is complex, dynamic and multi-faceted, and the future will bring significant change. Leaders need an informed and strengthened competency foundation for the new environment and pressures. This program focuses on developing the seven key leadership competencies that will best prepare you and your non-profit to face these challenges.

An Emerging Leaders Program Certificate will be issued upon completion of the following 4 courses.

  1. Leadership Fundamentals (Formerly Leading From Within)
    Excel in your current leadership role or rise through the ranks of your organization by cultivating the set of teambuilding, innovation and self-management skills that is needed in today's dynamic non-profit sector.

    Offered over 3 days, 3 hours each day | $400 (readings and some coursework is required between online sessions)

  2. Management Fundamentals - NEW!
    Gain a solid foundation in HR management knowledge to hire, develop and supervise non-profit staff in accordance with employment and safety legislation.

  3. Strategies for Building Partnerships
    Develop the critical skills to build partnerships to further your organization's mission and impact.

    3 hours | $95

  4. Proving Your Impact Through the Power of Story
    Use powerful storytelling to build strong connections, to engage your team, your funders and your clients, and to call more people to action.

    Offered over 2 days, 3 hours each day | $145 (readings and some coursework is required between online sessions)

** If you were enrolled in the Emerging Leaders program prior to 2020, a certificate will be issued by successfully completing the first, third and fourth course.


Group Training

At Volunteer Manitoba, we recognize that organizations sometimes require training to address their unique needs. If you need to train your entire group or organization, our training can be brought to you.

Volunteer Manitoba's team of expert facilitators, located across the province, can deliver cost-effective, group training for your staff, board and committees. The training would be delivered for a fixed fee at a mutually convenient time and location to meet your organization's needs.
