Volunteer Manitoba works with non-profits and charities in all aspects of organizational development, from advising on how to start a non-profit, providing guidance in leadership and human resources, offering advice on how to effectively market services and programs, and planning and implementing policies, procedures and strategic plans.

Volunteer Manitoba's Emerging Leaders Program

Leadership Skills for Emerging Non-Profit Leaders

The non-profit sector is complex, dynamic and multi-faceted, and the future will bring significant change. Leaders need to be prepared for the new environment and pressures with an informed and strengthened competency foundation. This program focuses on developing the seven key leadership competencies that will best prepare you and your non-profit to face these upcoming challenges.

An Emerging Leaders Program Certificate will be issued upon completion of the following 3 courses:

  1. Leading From Within (3 days)
    Take the next steps to pursue or advance your management career by learning about the knowledge and skills required to excel as a leader in your organization. If you want to rise through the ranks of your organization into management, or if you want to become more effective in your current leadership role, you'll need to cultivate a specialized set of skills and a particular mindset that is needed in today's dynamic non-profit sector.

  2. Strategies for Building Partnerships and Networking (1/2 day)
    Leading in the non-profit sector requires the skill to build partnerships and networks to further the organization's mission and impact.

  3. Storytelling - Presenting your Case for Support (1 day)
    Use powerful storytelling to build strong connections, to engage your team, your funders and your clients, and to call more people to action.

Program Planning & Evaluation - Distance

Building and maintaining a quality program takes careful planning and analysis.

Participants in this course will gain the skills and resources to:

  • determine the most pressing needs of their clients
  • establish realistic outcomes and corresponding strategic program plan to achieve these outcomes, and
  • evaluate their program's performance.

This course is currently being offered in a distance learning format for your convenience. Registration for this course is ongoing throughout the year and participants will have 5 weeks to complete the readings and assignments. There will be 3 short assignments throughout the course and one larger, final assignment. The instructor will be available by phone and email to answer any questions and assist you through the materials.

At Volunteer Manitoba, we recognize that organizations sometimes require training to address their unique needs. If you need to train your entire group or organization, our training can be brought to you.

Volunteer Manitoba's team of expert facilitators, located across the province, can deliver cost-effective, group training for your staff, board and committees. The training would be delivered for a fixed fee at a mutually convenient time and location to meet your organization's needs.
