Organizational Description: Frontier College is a national literacy organization operating a wide variety of programs in locations across Canada.

We recruit and train volunteer tutors who assist children, youth, and adults to acquire essential literacy and numeracy skills. We also partner with community-based organizations to help them establish and deliver literacy programs that meet the specific needs of their communities and participants.

As Canada's original literacy organization, Frontier College has been recruiting dedicated volunteers to work with Canadian children, youth, and adults from coast to coast to coast since 1899. Our programs have helped millions of Canadians improve their literacy skills, and we would love to welcome your involvement in continuing this meaningful work.
Volunteer Opportunity Details
Description of Duties: At this time our programming is full of wonderful volunteers. We are asking all new applicants to wait until the start of our Fall programming in September 2018. We will contact you then for an interview and invite you to our training in the fall.
As a volunteer with our Reading Circle at Flora House, you will support students in grade 1 to 4 with their literacy activities in our weekly after-school program.

You will support learners by working with them in small groups, one-to-one tutoring, with a focus on reading, writing, and numeracy skills development.

Skills Required: We are seeking individuals who:
- Want to help others improve their literacy skills
- Enjoy working with children
- Are comfortable working with learners from diverse backgrounds and literacy levels
- Are committed and reliable on a weekly basis

We provide free training for all of our volunteers.

**Please note that unfortunately we cannot accept volunteers under the age of 16.**
Skills Gained/Related Careers: As a volunteer with Frontier College you will gain:
- Classroom experience
- Literacy tutoring skills
- Experience working with learners from a variety of background, including individuals with learning disabilities, and different literacy levels.

Time Commitment: Evening
Mondays 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm Our Flora House Reading Circle runs from September through June, and we are currently accepting applicants for our Fall 2018 volunteer recruitment.
