Description of Duties:

Organization: Student Catalyst Gateway is a purpose-driven, tech-enabled not-for-profit committed to transforming the transition from education to employment through equity-centred, culturally responsive, and AI-enhanced programming.


Purpose of the Role: The VP, Finance and Sustainability, and Treasurer safeguard the financial health and long-term sustainability of SCG. This role provides strategic financial leadership, ensures strong oversight and transparent fiscal stewardship, and supports the organization in building resilient funding pathways that align with SCG's mission, growth plans, and hybrid nonprofit model.


Key Responsibilities:



  • Financial Stewardship and Oversight

  • Ensure SCG maintains strong budgeting, accounting, and reporting practices in collaboration with the Executive Director.

  • Oversee quarterly financial statements, forecasts, and fund tracking, and present financial updates to the board with clarity and strategic insight.

  • Monitor internal controls, risk indicators, and audit readiness across all financial processes.

  • Support compliance with regulatory, funder, and donor reporting requirements.

  • Ensure alignment between financial practices and SCG's values of equity, access, innovation, and accountability


Strategic Finance and Sustainability



  • Advise the Executive Director and board on long-term financial planning, cost management, and capital allocation.

  • Support the design and monitoring of multi-year financial models that reflect SCG's expansion across multiple campuses and diverse student populations.

  • Provide strategic insights on revenue diversification, including grants, donor contributions, earned revenue streams, partnerships, and social enterprise pathways.

  • Offer guidance on cash flow planning, investment decisions, and stewardship of restricted and unrestricted funds.

  • Strengthen SCG's financial capacity to support AI-enhanced programming, wraparound services, and hybrid nonprofit initiatives.


Funding and Resource Development Support



  • Collaborate with the Executive Director on funding proposals, financial narratives, and sustainability strategies for government, philanthropic, and institutional partners.

  • Advise on pricing models, program viability, and strategic resource allocation to support organizational growth.

  • Ensure transparent and credible financial communication with funders, donors, and stakeholders.


Subcommittee Leadership



  • Lead the Finance and Audit Subcommittee of three to five members, including financial advisors or accountants.

  • Convene bi-monthly meetings focused on financial reporting, risk monitoring, and internal control systems.

  • Oversee development and periodic review of financial policies, procedures, and governance documents related to financial management.

  • Provide quarterly financial and risk updates to the full board.

   
Skills Required:

  • CPA or senior finance leader with demonstrated experience in nonprofit, social enterprise, or corporate finance.

  • Strategic thinker with strong analytical skills who can balance innovation with prudent stewardship.

  • Values transparency, equity, and long-term sustainability and can translate financial data into clear insights that support mission-aligned decision-making.

  • Collaborative leader who can mentor emerging governance members, strengthen systems, and elevate SCG's financial resilience as it scales.
