Description of Duties:


Golden Rule Seniors Resource Centre, located at 625 Osborne Street (inside the Fort Rouge Leisure Centre), is seeking reliable volunteers who enjoy supporting seniors and keeping things organized. In this role, you will:




  • Set-Up & Take-Down: Arrange and put away tables and chairs before/after activities (with guidance); keep spaces tidy and safe.



  • Hospitality: Prepare and serve tea/coffee; keep refreshment area stocked and clean; light kitchen clean-up.



  • Registration & Attendance: Welcome participants, register new attendees, check off attendance, and assist with simple forms (training provided).



  • Front Desk & Phones: Answer phone calls, return messages, and provide clear information about our free programs and schedule.



  • Outreach & Promotion: Chat with seniors about available activities, share calendars/posters, and represent the Golden Rule Seniors Centre positively.


   
Skills Required:




  • Communication & Customer Service: Warm, clear, and patient with older adults.



  • Reliability & Punctuality: Comfortable following a schedule and showing up on time.



  • Teamwork & Initiative: Work well with staff/volunteers; pitch in where needed.



  • Light Physical Readiness: Able to lift/move chairs and light tables (up to 25 lb) and stand for portions of a shift.



  • Basic Phone/Computer Comfort: We'll train you on attendance lists and simple tools.

  • Customer Service & Reception: Front-of-house, phones, and visitor support.



  • Event & Program Operations: Set-up, logistics, and flow of community programming.



  • Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Engaging with seniors and diverse communities.

Daytime




  • Tuesdays: Afternoon shift - 12:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.



  • Wednesdays: Morning shift - 9:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
    Afternoon shift - 12:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.



  • Thursdays: Afternoon shift - 12:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.



  • Fridays: Morning shift - 9:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
    Afternoon shift - 12:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
