Description of Duties:

Do you have a passion for coaching and connecting with athletes in sport?


We are looking for volunteers for the following programs in Winnipeg:


- 5 pin


- 10 pin


- Basketball


- Swimming


- Rhythmic Gymnastics


- Active Start


- FUNdamentals


- Jr Programs


Position Description:


Join the team of program volunteers and coaches who directly provide training for athletes in eighteen different sports. They work with athletes to improve basic motor skills, teach sport-specific skills, and prepare athletes for competition. The time commitment is one to two weekly sessions for 1 to 2 ½ hours. Some weekends are required for competition. Be a part of athletes achieving their goals and help capture the spirit of Special Olympics!



Responsibilities:


Attend practice and competition events on a regular basis


Communicate with head coach regarding practices and competitions


Adhere to the plans for the head coach (weekly & yearly)


Supervise activities when deemed necessary by head coach


Attend coaching conferences and clinics as necessary to upgrade coaching skills


Instruction in sport skills


Competition at an appropriate level when certified as a coach


Modeling and instilling socially appropriated behavior including fair play


Learning the role of Head Coach via mentorship







   
Skills Required:


  • Some sport-specific knowledge





  • Experience with individual with intellectual disabilities is an asset





  • Adherence to Special Olympics Manitoba Coaches Code of Conduct , Constitution & By-Laws, Principles





  • Must follow the philosophy of Special Olympics Manitoba as presented in the Mission Statement





  • Must be at least 14 years of age to be a program volunteer
