Description of Duties: |
Volunteer with the Winnipeg Humane Society's public education campaigns by sourcing, scheduling and coordinating tabling events at various festivals, campuses and other locations throughout the city. Campaigns under the animal advocacy portfolio include: Breed Specific Legislation (BSL) for companion animals, pig welfare, use of animals in entertainment, dairy industry, and horse exportation to name a few. This is a great opportunity to engage the community in conversation to help make a positive change for the future through creative marketing and methods. UPCOMING CAMPAIGN: Breed Neutral Legislation We're gearing up for a fun and impactful volunteer opportunity with a mail drop of information cards about BSL. This will take place in the city's east Kildonan-Elmwood ward, which is heading into a municipal by-election to elect a new city councilor. This is to help raise awareness in the community about the need to repeal BSL and provide voters with information and questions that they can ask candidates running for the open Council position. We'll provide a quick overview of BSL, as well as the Winnipeg Humane Society's talking points on the issue, for anyone new to the topic. Volunteers will head out in teams of at least three, and we'll meet at a designated location (details to come!) where maps and information cards for each shift's mail drop will be provided. If you're interested in joining us, please sign up and help the cause! |
