Description of Duties:

Position Description: Do you have a passion for coaching and connecting with young athletes in sport? Special Olympics Manitoba offers youth programs designed to help children with an intellectual disability develop basic motor skills and sport skills through fun and positive movement experiences. Special Olympics promotes opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, enhance skills, and create friendships.


Responsibilities:




  • Training





  • Plan the club activities for the season (follow designated weekly lesson plans and yearly goals).





  • Regularly communicate with assistant leaders, program volunteers, parents, and athletes.





  • Facilitate practices with assistant leaders with the safety and well-being of the athletes always being top priority.





  • Ensure that all athletes/volunteers are registered to participate with the provincial office.





  • Attend regularly scheduled provincial coaches' meetings





  • Administrative





  • Maintain appropriate inventory.





  • Complete and update volunteer and athlete program lists regularly throughout the season.





  • Participate in Regional/Provincial events, including regional meetings and fundraising initiatives.





  • Ensure an Emergency Action Plan (EAP) is in place.





  • Communicate regularly with SOM staff.

  • Adherence to Special Olympics Manitoba Coaches Code of Conduct





  • Adherence to Special Olympics Manitoba Constitution & By-Laws, Principles





  • Must follow the philosophy of Special Olympics Manitoba as presented in the mission statement





  • Must be at least 18 years of age



  • Experience in sport is an asset



Training and Supervision:




  • Annual Coaches Meeting to review policies and procedures





  • Commitment to complete subsidized NCCP courses (Coaching Young Athletes)





  • Complete the Respect in Sport Online Course and renew every five years





  • Support, inform, and encourage assistant leaders and program volunteers to be certified



  • Participate with SOM staff in program visit



  • Participate in an exit interview upon completion of volunteer position





  • Reports to Program Coordinator
