Organizational Description: The Start2Finish solution to child poverty is innovative and dynamic. Our Fitness and Literacy Model is rooted in volunteerism, children's literacy, health, and education. Our community matrix, the engine that gives our programs sustainability, includes strong, lasting partnerships with businesses, schools and community groups, creating a "Pathway of Hope" that features comprehensive programs focused on academic achievement, physical fitness, nutrition and social interaction. This pathway includes our annual Backpack Program, which distributes backpacks filled with school supplies to the most at-risk schools across Canada; our Running & Reading Club weekly after-school program, which empowers children to improve their literacy skills, physical fitness and social and behavioural skills, and prepares them to achieve life-long success; and our Pathway of Hope Scholarship Program, which offers post-secondary scholarships to economically challenged high school students who demonstrate significant leadership, community service and academic excellence.

Description of Duties:

A S2F Virtual Coach has a significant role to encourage children on a weekly basis for positive change physically, mentally and emotionally through fitness and literacy. Coaches help to build confidence and motivation within children, while reducing learning gaps and developing a lifelong love of learning.


Program Facilitation
● Demonstrate: Lead and demonstrate exercises for students during Movement Breaks
● Encourage Participation: Motivate students to engage in fitness activities, helping them set and achieve personal goals.
● Reading Sessions: Conduct small group reading sessions, helping students improve their reading skills.
● Storytelling: Read stories aloud to the group and encourage discussions about the content
● Literacy Games: Facilitate fun and educational games that enhance vocabulary, comprehension, and a love for reading.


Student Support & Mentorship
● Build Relationships: Develop positive and supportive relationships with
students, fostering a sense of trust and encouragement.
● Provide Guidance: Offer assistance and advice to students, helping them overcome challenges and stay motivated.
● Role Modelling: Demonstrate positive behaviors and attitudes, serving as a role model for students.


Safety and Supervision
● Monitor Activities: Supervise students closely during all activities to ensure their safety and well-being.
● Follow Protocols: Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines set by the program.
● Address Issues: Respond promptly and appropriately to any safety concerns or incidents.


Communication and Collaboration
● Work with Staff: Collaborate with program staff and other volunteers to plan and execute activities.
● Share Insights: Communicate any observations or concerns about students' progress or behavior to program coordinators.
● Engage Students: Plan and facilitate engaging activities that make learning fun and enjoyable.
● Celebrate Success: Recognize and celebrate students' achievements and milestones.
