Description of Duties:


Cooking and Nutrition Classes are offered in sessions of eight weekly classes.


Each session includes one class per week, focusing on teaching and demonstrating the following:




  • Healthy, low-cost "Canadian-style" meals



  • Food safety practices



  • Eating Well with Canada's Food Guide



  • How to read and understand nutrition labels on packaged foods



  • Grocery shopping on a budget (includes one class held at the grocery store)



Volunteer Responsibilities


Preparation



  • Review the weekly class agenda (sent via email) to understand the schedule, topics, and recipes.


In-Class Assistance



  • Help with recipe preparation

  • Support delivery of class content

  • Assist with clean-up between topics and recipes


Clean-up



  • Work with clients and volunteers to:

    • Wash, sanitize, dry, and store dishes

    • Store leftover perishable foods safely

    • Ensure food is equally portioned for clients to take home

    • Clean countertops and kitchen surfaces


   
Skills Required:


  • Interest and familiarity with Canadian-style cooking, including vegetarian options; experience with ethnic foods is beneficial.



  • Ability to lead small groups.



  • Patient, warm, open-minded, and enthusiastic personality required.



  • Basic healthy eating knowledge.

  • Volunteers must commit around three hours weekly, from set-up through clean-up.
