Description of Duties:


Program Overview


We are looking for enthusiastic and reliable Cooking and Nutrition Class Assistants to support our hands-on cooking classes for newcomers.


This is a wonderful opportunity to support newcomers while sharing your love for cooking and gaining valuable experience.


Each session runs once a week for eight weeks and focuses on:


Healthy, low-cost "Canadian-style" meals


Food safety practices


Eating Well with Canada's Food Guide


How to read and understand nutrition labels on packaged foods


Grocery shopping on a budget (includes one class held at the grocery store)


Duties and Responsibilities


Preparation


Review the weekly class agenda (sent via email) to understand the schedule, topics, and recipes.


In-Class Assistance


Help with recipe preparation


Support delivery of class content


Assist with clean-up between topics and recipes


Clean-up


Work with clients and volunteers to:


Wash, sanitize, dry, and store dishes


Store leftover perishable foods safely


Ensure food is equally portioned for clients to take home


Clean countertops and kitchen surfaces

   
Skills Required:

Qualifications and Skills Required


Interest and familiarity with Canadian-style cooking, including vegetarian options; experience with ethnic foods is beneficial


Ability to lead small groups


Patient, warm, open-minded, and enthusiastic personality required


Basic healthy eating knowledge

Time Commitment Required


Approximately three hours weekly, including set-up and clean-up


Arrival 15 minutes before class start time is required
