Description of Duties:

*South Fort Richmond Community, apply by May 8th


Purpose: The purpose of this role is to support the Long Term Care (LTC) program by engaging residents in personal care homes to gather their feedback on various aspects of care. Volunteers will administer the LTC Resident Experience Survey on a one-on-one basis, ensuring the voices of residents are heard throughout personal care homes in Winnipeg.


Responsibilities:


To assist with administering, collecting and collating the LTC Resident Survey responses as outlined:



  • Ensure an environment that is respective of the resident's privacy

  • Assist with administering survey responses by providing information on the reasons why we are collecting the data (follow script provided)

  • Assist residents with completing the survey (i.e. reading the questions to them, completing the forms, etc.)

  • Ensure to remain unbiased at all times, providing only neutral feedback and or assistance with questions as required

  • Collect and collate survey responses

   
Skills Required:

  • Previous experience working with the elderly population is required;

  • Previous experience in health care is preferred;

  • Must attend all required training sessions and be flexible to commit to various days and times during the data collection period;

  • Be able to maintain an unbiased position about the facility;

  • Be physically capable of writing and asking questions at the same time;

  • Effective interpersonal communication skills;

  • Ability to communicate and engage residents in a friendly, supportive manner;

  • Ability to understand, give direction and express oneself in English in a clear, concise manner;

  • Ability speak another language is an asset;

  • Ability to follow directions and pay attention to details in order to provide consistency;

  • Ability to work with minimum supervision;

  • Organizational skills, Conscientious, Reliable;

  • Abide by the WRHA and specific site's policies on confidentiality including the Personal Information Act (PHIA);

  • Computer skills - comfortable using a computer, iPad and the internet

  • Gain experience in a healthcare setting

  • Increase knowledge of the LTC Program

  • Assist residents in providing a voice that supports resident engagement through this quality improvement activity for the personal care homes and the LTC program

Length of Commitment: Approximately 4 weeks (month of May) or upon completion of the LTC Resident Experience Survey.


Shifts: There will be 2 hours of virtual training. Upon successful completion of the training, volunteers will commit to a minimum of 3 to 4 days, with 6-hour shifts (approximately 8 surveys per day), during the 4-week survey period in May. Exact shifts will be coordinated between the volunteer and the Onsite Coordinator.
