Description of Duties:

Who are Officials?

There are a wide variety of different disciplines for Track and Field Officials to choose from.


There are Technical/Administrative Officiating roles that are highly reliant on technology...


● Photo Finish operators
● Results and Display Board operators
● Competition Secretary


There are Field of Play Officials that primarily interact with athletes participating in race events on the track...


● Finish Line official
● Umpire
● Marshal/Call Room Judge
● Starter and Starter's Assistant


There are Field of Play Officials that primarily interact with athletes participating in the throwing & jumping events in the field...


● Shot Put, Javelin, Hammer, and Discus
● Long Jump, Triple Jump, High Jump and Pole Vault

   
Skills Required:

All of the technical and sport specific skills required to be an Official can and will be taught over time to successful applicants.


Orientations, job shadowing, clinics, and ongoing mentorship opportunities, are all provided to properly train Officials.


Strong interpersonal skills are required for all potential new recruits! In many instances, Officials are the face of our sport and must be prepared to work collaboratively with other officials, as well as interact with athletes and coaches in a professional manner on a regular basis.

As Officials gain experience and training, they are able to progress through the various levels and Officiate at higher level competitions, taking on more responsibilities.


Levels 1 and 2 are Provincial Level Officials, and Levels 3-5 are National Level Officials.

Time Commitment:
Daytime
Evening
Weekend

We have various track and field competitions throughout the year.


There is an indoor season that runs from December to March and an outdoor season that runs from May to July.


School based competitions often occur during the weekday - daytime.


Club based competitions often occur in the evenings and on some weekends. (Usually Friday evening and Saturday).


Volunteer hours are scheduled by the individual, based on their own personal schedule and availability.
