Food Bank Support

• Set up the multi-purpose room


• Unload Harvest Manitoba delivery truck


• Prepare/sort food according to staff instructions


• Provide friendly, confidential assistance


• Distribute food to members


• Clean up after food bank

This position requires that volunteers work on their feet for extended periods of time and occasional heavy lifting may also be required (accommodations can be made). Conversational and written English language skills are required for this position.

• Empathy and cultural competency when working with diverse and marginalized communities


• Building rapport with clients experiencing health and socioeconomic challenges


• Maintaining confidentiality and ethical practice in a health-related setting


• Organizational and time management skills in a fast-paced environment


• Inventory management and food safety knowledge


• Understanding of food security and nutrition, particularly for people living with HIV


• Problem-solving and adaptability when handling unexpected situations or client needs


• Knowledge of harm reduction, health equity, and HIV advocacy


• Experience in community engagement and public education


• Exposure to the social determinants of health (poverty, stigma, food insecurity)


• Networking with healthcare providers, social workers, and community organizations


• Professional experience relevant to social services, public health, and non-profit work

You must be available either 9am-1pm or 1pm-5pm for 1 Thursday a month.
