Description of Duties:

Accept case referrals from Probation, School, Court Crown and Police to the committee. All youth and adult referrals will be tracked and recorded by the Westman Mediation Services


Will provide a form for the education, reconciliation and disposition of the young person as well as adults with in the community


Provide the victims with a forum for Restorative Justice approaches to include the opportunity for reconciliation, reparation and closure for victims of crimes against them or their property


Provide the community with the information, education, and the opportunity for community input on extrajudicial sanctions and adult alternative measure including crime prevention


Will address the circumstances underlying young person's/adult offending behavior, ensuring meaningful consequence and rehabilitating and reintegrating the into society


Will ensure that the young person/adult is assigned to work for the victim or a non profit community organization and will be monitored by the Committee or committee member(s) until all community work has been completed


Will promote community awareness of the Community Justice Committee's activities and involvement in the community and address justice issues that face their community by means of public education (ie the Schools, public forums, presentations, etc)


Will work in partnership with other judicial officials and community organizations

Satisfactory Criminal Record Check/Vulnerable Person check, Adult Abuse & Child Abuse Resistry Checks
