Organizational Description: Survivor's Hope Crisis Centre Inc. (SHCC) is a sexual violence resource centre, serving those of all genders in the Interlake Eastern Region of Manitoba. SHCC provides inclusive support and sexual assault crisis intervention to survivors and those affected by sexual violence through our SARAH program, acts as an education resource for schools through our SADI program, and engages community and service providers through our Reaching Out Program.

Description of Duties:

Seeking dedicated and knowledgeable members for our volunteer Board of Directors. The Board meets virtually once monthly from September - June and guides the direction of the agency to influence the support available for survivors.

Current openings are for a Vice Chair, Treasurer, Secretary, as well as Members at Large.


The mandate of Survivor's Hope Crisis Centre is providing hope and healing for those impacted by sexual violence in Interlake-Eastern Manitoba. Programs of Survivor's Hope include:



  • SARAH (Sexual Assault Recovery and Healing) - long-term free counseling and 24/7 crisis support for survivors and those indirectly affected

  • SADI (Sexual Assault Discussion Initiative) - workshops for youth in schools to teach about healthy relationships, consent, digital safety, and self-esteem

  • Reaching Out - community engagements events and advocacy

  • Various committees and community-based involvement

   
Skills Required:

Members come from diverse backgrounds including, but not limited to, mental health, youth and school support, community work, and Indigenous knowledge. No previous experience on a Board required.


Reliability, attention to detail, and strong organizational skills are an asset.

   
Skills Gained/Related Careers:

Working on the development of a non-profit organization focused on survivors and victims of crimes, intimate partner violence, sexual violence, and exploitation.


Policy development.


Financial review.


Organizational skills.


Non-profit management experience.

Remote Volunteering

The Board of Directors meets once monthly, by virtual means, September through June. Typically meetings are held at 6:00pm.


Commitments outside of meeting times are variable and may be opted out of.
