Organizational Description: 1JustCity is an organization that supports three drop-in community centres in Winnipeg's core neighbourhoods: West Broadway, Osborne Village, and Central. Our services include daily meals, art, senior's programs, sharing circles, haircuts, showers, laundry, toiletries, and clean undergarments. In the winter months we also run the pop up warming centre in Osborne Village: Just a Warm Sleep.

Description of Duties:

The self-guided garden tour, which includes a tea, craft and plant sale, welcomed over 600 visitors and raised $28,000 in 2023 surpassing our 2022 total by $5,000. In 2020 and 2021 the tour was held virtually due to COVID-19 and raised $18,000 and $16,000 respectively. Volunteers organize and facilitate
the tour and funds raised support the vital work of 1JustCity. The 2024 tour will take place in the Charleswood area on June 22, 2024.
Location of the upcoming tour and venue for the Tea, Craft & Plant Sale is decided by the Garden Tour Committee the preceding year. Typically, the tour takes place the fourth Saturday in June and a church or community centre serves as the tea venue.


January/March - Update and maintain current contact list of organizations willing to promote the tour (Excel spreadsheet format).
Update and maintain list of locations where the tour poster can be displayed (community billboards, garden centres, libraries, churches, Starbucks, etc.).
April/May - Distribute tour poster electronically and organize the distribution of printed posters. Committee members/volunteers assist with putting up posters.
May/June - Draft news releases when tour details are finalized and distribute electronically (email, social media)
Respond to media requests and co-ordinate interviews with Committee Members and other representatives.
Attend the event (if possible) and provide assistance as needed.

   
Skills Required:

Ability to work independently and with a team. Organized with good computer skills, competency in using Microsoft Word and Excel, ability to post on social media platforms.

   
Skills Gained/Related Careers:

Contribute to services for some of the most vulnerable people in the city, experience camaraderie working with dedicated team of volunteers, hone organizational skills.

Time Commitment:
Flexible Hours

Approximately 40-50 hours. Most work can be completed on your own schedule, evenings and weekends. Attend six tour committee planning meetings and report on progress.
