Organizational Description: 1JustCity is an organization that supports three drop-in community centres in Winnipeg's core neighbourhoods: West Broadway, Osborne Village, and Central. Our services include daily meals, art, senior's programs, sharing circles, haircuts, showers, laundry, toiletries, and clean undergarments. In the winter months we also run the pop up warming centre in Osborne Village: Just a Warm Sleep.

Description of Duties:

The self guided garden tour, which includes a tea, craft and plant sale, welcomed over 600 visitors and raised $30,600 in 2024, our 25th anniversary year. Volunteers organize and facilitate the tour and funds raised support the vital work of 1JustCity.


January/March - update and maintain current contact list of volunteers & Committee Members (Excel spreadsheet).
Participate in updating volunteer job descriptions as required.
Working with Garden Tour committee, help to recruit new volunteers.
April - update volunteer recruitment letter and email to volunteers;acknowledge responses and update spreadsheet.
May - send out reminder recruitment letter if required.
June - prepare assignments/schedule for garden hosts, plant sale, craft sale, tea and ticket sales, and email to volunteers.
Update instructions for garden hosts and email to volunteers.
Compile list of names of volunteers to be entered in a prize draw.
Assemble supply bag for each garden and distribute to garden hosts at the volunteer breakfast.
Provide orientation to garden hosts at the volunteer breakfast on tour day. Prepare a report for the debriefing meeting with recommendations for changes.
July - update volunteer Thank You letter and email to the volunteers.

Ability to work independently and with a team. Organized, with strong computer skills, competency in using Microsoft Word and Excel.

Contribute to services for some of the most vulnerable people in the city, experience camaraderie working with dedicated team of volunteers, hone organizational skills.

Time Commitment:
Flexible Hours

Approximately 40 to 50 hours. Bulk of the time commitment is mid-April, May, June and work can be completed on your schedule. Attend six (mostly 'zoom') Garden Tour Committee planning meetings and report on progress. Attend the event especially the morning breakfast.
