Description of Duties:

The MDSS social club provides opportunities for our young people to engage with their peers in a fun, informal, social setting. As a volunteer, you will help facilitate inclusive experiences, build friendships, and promote independence and social confidence among participants.


Key Responsibilities:




  • Support participants during group outings, games, meals, and activities



  • Encourage social interaction, communication, and participation



  • Provide friendly guidance and support based on individual needs



  • Help set up and take down event materials when needed



  • Work collaboratively with MDSS staff and other volunteers



  • Ensure a welcoming, safe, and respectful environment for all



  • Report any incidents or concerns to the Program Coordinator


   
Skills Required:

We are looking for individuals with strong interpersonal skills who will engage with our young adults in activities they love. These may include music, dancing, games, crafts, sports, baking, or even just chatting and having fun as friends do.


Qualifications:




  • Friendly, respectful, and reliable



  • Interest in working with adults and teens with intellectual disabilities



  • Comfortable in group settings and social situations



  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills



  • Ability to follow instructions and adapt to participant needs



  • Completion of MDSS orientation and Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search (if over 18)



Previous experience working with individuals with Down syndrome or disabilities is an asset but not required.

Social Club meets approximately twice a month on Saturday evenings September to June. Volunteers need to be at our venue (Churchill United Church on Beresford) from 6:30 to 9:45 p.m..
