Organizational Description: United for Literacy (formally known as Frontier College) is a national literacy organization operating a wide variety of programs in locations across Canada.

We recruit and train volunteer tutors who assist children, youth, and adults to acquire essential literacy and numeracy skills. We also partner with community-based organizations to help them establish and deliver literacy programs that meet the specific needs of their communities and participants.

As Canada's original literacy organization, United for Literacy has been recruiting dedicated volunteers to work with Canadian children, youth, and adults from coast to coast to coast since 1899. Our programs have helped millions of Canadians improve their literacy skills, and we would love to welcome your involvement in continuing this meaningful work.

Description of Duties:

United for Literacy Manitoba is currently recruiting Volunteer Tutors to support our online Math club on 1 evening a week from 6:00pm-7:00pm (week day TBD). The program will operate on the Zoom platform and will be run by one of our literacy interns. The volunteers will work with a small group of children between the ages of 6-17 in breakout rooms. This volunteer position can be done remotely so you can be located anywhere in Manitoba and still participate

We will provide free training to anyone accepted as a united for literacy volunteer. We will continue to provide you with any additional support or resources throughout your tutoring experience. We can also sign off on your volunteer hours and provide a reference.

   
Skills Required:

We are seeking individuals who:
- Want to help others improve their Math Skills
- Are committed to and reliable for at least 1 hour of volunteering per week.
- Are comfortable working with learners from a variety of backgrounds and literacy levels
- Are enthusiastic, patient, flexible, creative, and understanding
- Want to make a difference in their communities and in the lives of others
- Are able to navigate the online platform Zoom and are comfortable tutoring in an virtual setting

As a volunteer with United for literacy, you will gain:

- Experience in supporting learners from a variety of backgrounds, different literacy levels, including EAL learners and individuals with learning disabilities
