We recruit and train volunteer tutors who assist children, youth, and adults to acquire essential literacy and numeracy skills. We also partner with community-based organizations to help them establish and deliver literacy programs that meet the specific needs of their communities and participants.

As Canada's original literacy organization, Frontier College has been recruiting dedicated volunteers to work with Canadian children, youth, and adults from coast to coast to coast since 1899. Volunteer Opportunity Details
Description of Duties: Frontier College is currently recruiting Volunteer Tutors to support our online homework club and 1-to-1 tutor program. The volunteer position will be online through the Zoom platform and will be supported by one of our literacy interns. The volunteers will work with a small group of children between the ages of 6-17 in breakout rooms or 1 on 1. This volunteer position can be done remotely so you can be located anywhere in Manitoba and still participate.

We will provide free training to anyone accepted as a Frontier College volunteer. We will continue to provide you with any additional support or resources throughout your tutoring experience. We can also sign off on your volunteer hours and provide a reference.
Skills Required: We are seeking individuals who:
- Are fluent in the French language
- Want to help others improve their literacy
- Are committed to and reliable for at least 1 hour of volunteering per week. Days/times are flexible
- Are comfortable working with learners from a variety of backgrounds and literacy levels
- Are enthusiastic, patient, flexible, creative, and understanding
- Want to make a difference in their communities and in the lives of others
- Are able to navigate the online platform Zoom and are comfortable tutoring in an virtual setting
Skills Gained/Related Careers: As a volunteer with Frontier College, you will gain:
- Literacy tutoring skills
- Experience in supporting learners from a variety of backgrounds, different literacy levels, including EAL learners and individuals with learning disabilities
- Experience assisting children and youth with formative language abilities
