Organizational Description: Scleroderma Manitoba advocates for the scleroderma community across the province and is committed to promoting disease awareness and improving the quality of life for all patients. Through advocacy, we aim to raise public awareness and rally support around the issues affecting the scleroderma community (eg. access to medications) to ensure our voice is heard and needs are met by government decision-makers. Scleroderma Manitoba not only serves as a support for scleroderma patients and their families, but also advocates with other associations, such as the Pulmonary Hypertension Association of Canada, for those who are affected by other diseases.
Volunteer Opportunity Details
Description of Duties: This is a contributing board position to support scleroderma patients by promoting patient outreach and education; raising public awareness and developing information tools for the general public and stakeholders in the medical community; and encouraging and supporting leading edge research in Manitoba and Canada.
The new board member will attend scheduled board meetings (in person or via virtual conference); participate as a active member on at least one board committee (finance, education & support; communication; or fundraising).
Skills Required: Mature individual with excellent communication skills both in person and in writing; previous experience in participating on a volunteer board; experience with word press and social media an asset; previous participation in fundraising events; basic awareness of scleroderma.

Time Commitment: Daytime, Evening
Board meetings are scheduled as frequently as once per month and last about 2 hours. Preparation for the meeting requires about 20 minutes to read the agenda and minutes. Preparing a committee report could require another 2 hours. Committee meetings between board meetings vary depending on the time of year and upcoming events. This varies but could be up to 3 to 4 hours per month. The term of office is three years. This is a volunteer position. Our organization has no paid staff.
