Leveraging the Power of Story for Your Organization (2 Days)

April 20, 2023
09:00 AM to 12:00 PM

*This course runs April 20, 2023, 9:00am -12:00pm and Part 2 on May 4, 2023, 9:00am -12:00pm

This workshop is required to complete Volunteer Manitoba's Emerging Leaders Program.

Storytelling is identified as one of the essential competencies required of today's non-profit leaders. In this workshop, participants learn to use stories to build strong connections, to engage their team, their funders and their clients, and to call more people to action. Developing a dynamic set of stories can work strategically with everything from staff alignment, volunteer recruitment, connection with participants, website content and funding. You will get hands-on practice, listen to great examples of powerful storytelling, and take away tools that will help you shape stories for different audiences.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify the basic building blocks of an impactful story structure
  • Demonstrate concrete ways to make stories memorable and actionable
  • Identify, develop and practice telling two stories that relate to a specific goal or audience you need to connect with in your work (for example, help seekers, community members, policymakers, funders, media)
  • List tips and techniques for increasing your organization's 'story bank'
