Creating Connections to Build Retention (Feb 18/26)
December 02, 2021
09:00 AM to 12:00 PM
Engaging and staying connected with your volunteers is critical, and particularly if they are working distantly or not able to volunteer at this time. This workshop will help you better understand volunteer retention and how to create a meaningful connection with your volunteers.
When it comes to volunteer retention our minds often jump first to our own capacity, and what our organization is capable of achieving when it comes to retention. But it's important to look at retention from the volunteer's perspective.
We know from the research that the number one reason people want to volunteer is to make a difference in their community. The next most popular reason is to build or develop skills and expertise. As a leader of volunteers you will be a catalyst for this action. You can be the bridge between people who want to see a change in the world and your organization (or group) which has the resources and the mandate to make that change happen.
By offering an opportunity to affect change, and create a meaningful experience for your volunteers, you will see your volunteer retention strengthen.
This workshop will examine the steps to creating a meaningful connection with volunteers, what motivates volunteers, and what factors impact the volunteer's decision to leave the organization.
Who should participate?
This workshop is recommended for volunteer managers, staff and leadership volunteers who are responsible for engaging volunteers within their organization or group.
Facilitator:
After many years of working in the arts, Kristy began looking for work that would have her directly involved in helping to empower others. The depth of connection that she was blessed in developing with Winnipeg's inner city community, many of whom have little reliable connections in their lives, was noteworthy. She is passionate about supporting volunteers in meeting their goals and helping them find their strengths while helping them feel like they've made a difference by helping out. Kristy also believes in providing individuals with person-centred approaches by focusing on consistent care and support that matter most to the individual.
For the last 10 years, she has supported volunteers with disabilities, newcomers, high school students and people coming out of mental health crisis, homelessness and/or addiction - and believes that everyone has assets to offer. What she truly loves about her job is being able to connect with volunteers while creating a relationship built on trust and hands-on support.
She enjoys giving back to the community by volunteering and has had the privilege of volunteering with CNIB, St. Amant, Future Hope Inc., and United Way Winnipeg. She has been featured on CBC News and Radio, CTV News, as well as local newspapers and blogs.
