Description of Duties:

EHI is looking for dependable and compassionate volunteers who are available on Thursdays to assist with food preparation, packaging, organization, and distribution. Volunteers will work in a welcoming, respectful, and team-oriented environment.


Volunteer responsibilities may include:



  • Assisting with the preparation of nutritious meals.

  • Washing, cutting, and organizing ingredients.

  • Sorting donated food and checking items for quality.

  • Dividing prepared meals and donated food into individual packages.

  • Labelling and organizing food packages for distribution.

  • Assist with distributing meals and food packages to residents and community members.

  • Loading and unloading donated food, supplies, and prepared meals.

  • Organizing food in refrigerators, freezers, and designated storage areas.

  • Following proper food-handling, hygiene, and workplace-safety procedures.

  • Cleaning and sanitizing tables, equipment, utensils, and food-preparation areas.

  • Helping reduce food waste by ensuring donated items are sorted, stored, and used appropriately.

  • Treating residents, community members, staff, and fellow volunteers with dignity, compassion, and respect.

  • Completing other reasonable Nutrition Program duties under the direction of EHI staff.

   
Skills Required:

  • A genuine interest in supporting vulnerable individuals and strengthening the community.

  • Dependability, punctuality, and the ability to follow instructions.

  • Ability to work respectfully as part of a diverse team.

  • Ability to stand for periods of time and perform light lifting.

  • Previous food-preparation or community-service experience is helpful but not required.

  • A valid driver's licence and access to a vehicle are assets for volunteers assisting with pickups or deliveries but are not required for other duties.
