Organizational Description: The Volunteer Committee for the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra is a
not-for-profit registered Public Foundation. Our main objective is to raise funds and promote the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra. This is done by organizing various fundraising events. Committee members enjoy supporting the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra with its world class performances and commitment to community outreach and educational programs.

Description of Duties:

The Volunteer Committee for the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra is seeking a volunteer Treasurer to join our team.


Position Summary: The Treasurer is part of our Executive Committee



  • Manage Money: oversee the committee's annual budget and monthly financial status.

  • Process Payments: Handle membership dues, donations, proceeds from Music Stand purchases, event income and writing tax receipts for donations. Act as a signing officer along with the President and Vice President.

  • Stay Compliant: Complete and send in GST rebate forms and file annual CRA forms to maintain our status.

  • Report: Present a clear, comprehensible financial report at monthly Executive and General meetings.

  • Serve: as primary board contact for external financial reviewers, ensure timely completion of required reviews.

   
Skills Required:

  • Several years experience in accounting/bookkeeping or CPA designation is preferred.

  • Comfort with managing reports and digital transactions via Point of Sale.

  • Confident knowledge of CRA regulations and submissions.

  • Attend regular monthly Executive and General meetings held weekday mornings.

  • Have a passion for the Arts and Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra.

  • Estimated 5-8 hours per month.

   
Skills Gained/Related Careers:

Experience with a small Board.
