| Description of Duties: | Cultural support volunteers provide regular, informal groups and activities for women, children or families in our busy violence prevention shelter program (e.g., cultural-based crafts, games, etc.). Regular, scheduled attendance is required. All cultures are welcome, but preference will be given for Indigenous cultural programming. Cultural support volunteers will work under supervision or Willow Place shelter staff, and in compliance with all Willow Place policies and procedures, |
| Skills Required: | Friendly, patient demeanor. Respectful and reliable. Aware of impacts on individuals, children and families who have survived violence and abuse. Flexibility, adaptability and excellent oral and written communication. Comfortable sharing information with others. Able to focus and adjust to changing circumstances in a fast-paced environment. Active listener, able to receive constructive feedback and work with minimal supervision, as well as collaboratively with others. |
| Skills Gained/Related Careers: | Expanded understanding of person-centered, trauma-informed supports for violence and abuse survivors (women, children and families). Opportunity to share and celebrate cultural heritage. Building confidence and communication skills. Working independently, but also collaboratively.
