Organizational Description: The Mennonite Heritage Village exists to preserve and exhibit for present and future generations the experience and story of the Russian Mennonites and their contribution to Manitoba. We seek to do this through collecting and displaying artefacts, creating informational exhibits and creating events and programming that demonstrates and highlights early settler life in Manitoba.

Description of Duties:

Fall Education Program Volunteers are volunteers who have daytime availability to volunteer in a variety of positions which are used when schools come for field trips. These positions include leading pioneer activities such as Butter Churning, Refrigerator Pickles, Windmill Interpretation, Quilting, Fraktur Art, and a Blackboard Spelling Bee.



  • Attend Volunteer Orientation

  • Engage school aged children in the material you are presenting - specific training on your volunteer position of interest will be given

  • Dress in period-appropriate clothing - If you need a costume, MHV's costume room is available for you to look through

  • Be flexible as you will be working with a variety of different ages of children

  • Log your volunteer hours on a Volunteer Hours Log (get from Program Coordinator or Program Assistant)

   
Skills Required:

  • Ability to communicate in an engaging manner with children

  • Ability to demonstrate the activity and lead children in the activity as is fitting for their age

  • Flexibility to tailor station instructions and communication for the variety of ages you engage with
