Volunteer Opportunity Details
Volunteer Opportunity ID: 6517

Description of Duties:

Access to Therapy is a registered Canadian charity that helps low-income adults access mental health counselling. We are looking for volunteers to help us connect with businesses and community organizations that can spread the word about our fundraising efforts.

Your first project will be supporting our Christmas 50/50 raffle. You will contact Manitoba businesses, employers, unions, community groups, and other organizations to ask whether they would share the raffle through their newsletters, staff emails, social media, or member communications. Rather than asking each organization for money, you will be asking them to help us reach more people.

Working from an assigned contact list, you will send personalized emails, follow up with interested organizations, and provide ready-to-share digital materials. You will also keep a shared spreadsheet updated with your outreach, responses, and next steps so that volunteers do not accidentally contact the same organizations. Phone outreach may also be an option for volunteers who are comfortable with it.

We will provide contact lists, email templates, promotional materials, and guidance. You are welcome to suggest additional organizations or outreach ideas, but you will not have to build a campaign from scratch.

This is a remote role with no door-to-door fundraising, cash handling, or printing required. You do not need to bring your own contacts, purchase tickets, or make a personal donation.

Skills Required:

We are looking for volunteers who are reliable, organized, and comfortable introducing our charity to new people by email. You should be able to write clear, friendly messages, personalize a template, and keep accurate records of your outreach.

Basic computer skills are needed, including using email and updating a spreadsheet. You will need access to a computer and an internet connection, and the ability to work independently while staying in touch with our team.

A respectful approach is important. Volunteers should be comfortable following up without pressuring people, accepting a "no," and following our guidance on outreach and approved promotional materials.

Previous fundraising experience is not required. Experience in customer service, administration, communications, sales, or community volunteering would be helpful, but we welcome beginners who are willing to learn.

Skills Gained/Related Careers:

Volunteers will gain practical experience in nonprofit fundraising, community outreach, professional communication, and relationship building. You will practise approaching organizations, tailoring messages to different audiences, managing follow-ups, and keeping campaign records organized.

You will also learn how a small charity builds community support and how digital outreach contributes to a fundraising campaign.

This experience is relevant to careers in fundraising, nonprofit management, communications, public relations, marketing, community development, and administration.

Remote Volunteering
Flexible Hours

Approximately 2-4 hours per week, with the schedule and workload agreed upon with each volunteer.

This role can be completed remotely, and most email outreach and recordkeeping can be done on your own schedule. Some daytime availability is helpful for communicating with businesses, but evening and weekend volunteers are welcome.

We are seeking volunteers who can provide consistent support during the Christmas raffle campaign. Regular communication and completing agreed-upon follow-ups are more important than working fixed shifts.
