Description of Duties:

Event Overview
The Weekender is Winnipeg's newest signature street festival - a three-day celebration that will transform downtown Winnipeg into a vibrant festival experience filled with live entertainment, local food and beverage, interactive activities, community programming, and unique experiences for all ages. FREE to attend and open to the public, The Weekender takes place along the Graham Avenue pedestrian corridor, Smith Street, surrounding parking lots and Millennium Library Park. Featuring a curated lineup of festival zones such as: Adventure Zone, Family Zone, Artisan Market, Food Truck Wars, Live Entertainment and Beer Gardens.

  • Saturday, September 12th: 12PM - 12AM

  • Sunday, September 13th: 12PM - 8PM


Volunteer Duty Descriptions



  • Access Control: We have security on-site for all entry and exit points. This position would be to greet and welcome attendees as they arrive, and to say goodbye on their way out. This job would also be an information point for attendees.

  • Environment: Overall site cleanliness is maintain throughout the day. Cleaning up trash and recycling, along with changing over the bins when full. Ensuring sanitation and cleanliness standards are met throughout the entirety of the festival

  • Festival Activations: This position would be to help the Family and Adventure Zones and the respective activities happening within these areas. For example, it could be from helping kids with arts & crafts; line management; overseeing bouncers to general attendee assistance.

  • Festival Operations: General site tasks & Staff Support. Various duties as assigned.

  • Hospitality: This position pertains to supporting backstop of supplies, ensuring cleanliness and reception of hospitality goods.

  • Information Tent: This position would be to help attendees find specific areas of the festival and generall site information. This is also where we would collect the votes for our Food Truck Wars.

  • Volunteer Services: This position would primarily be stationed in the volunteer tent. Ensuring snacks and water are available for volunteer breaks, providing t-shirts on arrival, etc.

  • Festival Site Set-up & Tear-Down: There will also be shifts available on Thursday September 10th and Monday September 11th for site set up and tear-down respectively.

   
Skills Required:

Skills required involve:



  • Ability to work on your feet for the entirety of your shift, outside in various elements. The event is outdoors and is rain or shine. Only severe inclement weather would postpone and/or cancel the event.

  • Ability to work with kids, this is a free to attend family oriented event with various activities for families to enjoy.

  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment, which at times can be fast-paced with multiple other volunteers and staff members.

  • All skill levels welcomed, along with new and long term volunteers.

   
Skills Gained/Related Careers:

  • Will learned how to work in a team-oriented environment, which at times can be fast-paced with multiple other volunteers and staff members.

  • Will learn how to work with children and families if you select to work in the Adventure or Family Zones.

  • Will learn how to keep a large festival clean, operational and various other skill sets that come with putting on a large festival.

  • Will improve communication skills
