Organizational Description: Herizons is a quarterly magazine dedicated to feminist social commentary. Herizons publishes on art, culture, and legal/political/community affairs. With a focus on anti-oppression, topics are related to gender, race, sexuality, ability, and other identity markers that intersect and shape our lived experiences. Each issue includes provocative interviews with artists, authors, and activists. It also includes timely, feminist-informed essays, news, and reviews. Herizons prioritizes writers based in Canada. It is published in Winnipeg (Treaty 1 Territory) and distributed across the country. Submissions are open year round.

Description of Duties:

Herizons is seeking a Social Media Presenter Volunteer to help create and manage content across our digital platforms.


This position offers a unique learning opportunity under the mentorship of Joanne Roberts, Board Member and Lead Social Media Presenter. The year-long mentorship will be focused on finding strong stories, identifying angles, adapting larger ideas for short-form platforms, and creating social content with substance, personality, and a clear point of view.


The successful candidate will be interested in feminist journalism and storytelling.


They will also be encouraged to bring their own short-form storytelling, creative projects, or questions into the mentorship for feedback and guidance.


This role is based in Winnipeg. While the majority of the work will be completed online, the volunteer must be available to attend occasional in-person meetings for collaborative planning and content creation.


The commitment for this position is 1 year.

   
Skills Required:

  • Experience with or strong interest in social media content creation and platform management.

  • Experience with feminist groups, collectives, or organizations is an asset.

  • Strong written communication, editing, and creative skills.

  • Self-motivation and ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

  • Ability to attend occasional in-person meetings in Winnipeg for content creation
