Description of Duties:

Location: On-site (Housing Complex Grounds & Common Areas)


Position Overview


We are seeking an energetic and reliable Grounds & Property Maintenance Volunteer to help keep our housing complex clean, safe, and welcoming year-round! This role combines outdoor seasonal maintenance with essential indoor common-area cleaning. It is a fantastic opportunity to stay active, work both indoors and outdoors, and directly improve the living environment for our resident community.


Key Responsibilities


Outdoor Maintenance (Seasonal):



  • Summer & Warm Seasons:

    • Operate a lawnmower and string trimmer to mow lawns and edge walkways.

    • Clear trash/debris from outdoor common areas and weed flower beds or garden borders.

    • Assist with light outdoor upkeep like raking leaves or cleaning outdoor seating areas.


  • Winter & Cold Seasons:

    • Operate a snowblower and use snow shovels to clear pathways, sidewalks, and emergency exits.

    • Apply ice melt/salt to slippery walkways and stairs to keep residents safe.

    • Clear snow build-up and fallen branches around entranceways and waste areas.



Indoor Cleaning & Maintenance (Year-Round):



  • Floor Care: Vacuum carpets and rugs in common corridors, lobbies, and community rooms; sweep and mop hard surface floors.

  • Surface Sanitization: Wipe down and sanitize high-touch surfaces, such as door handles, handrails, light switches, and elevator buttons.

  • Common Area Upkeep: Keep shared spaces neat (tidying furniture, clearing indoor trash and recycling bins, and cleaning interior glass doors/windows).
   
Skills Required:

Qualifications & Requirements



  • Equipment Experience: Ability to safely operate outdoor power equipment (lawnmower, snowblower) and standard cleaning tools (vacuum cleaner, mop).

  • Physical Capabilities: Comfortable doing physical tasks (standing, walking, bending, lifting up to 30-40 lbs / 13-18 kg) in both warm, cold, and indoor settings.

  • Reliability & Initiative: Self-motivated, punctual, and attentive to maintaining high cleanliness and safety standards.

  • Safety Awareness: Commitment to using appropriate safety gear (gloves, ear protection, non-slip footwear) and following equipment safety guidelines.

  • Earn verified community service hours (documentation provided upon request).

Flexible Hours

2-4 hours a week with flexible start times.
