Description of Duties:

Position Overview


We are looking for enthusiastic, dependable Kitchen Helpers to join our team! As a Volunteer Kitchen Helper, you will play a vital role in supporting our food preparation operations, ensuring maintaining high safety and hygiene standards, and helping us serve healthy meals to our community. This is a great opportunity to learn culinary basics, meet new people, and make a tangible impact.


Key Responsibilities



  • Food Preparation: Assist cooks and kitchen staff with basic meal prep tasks, such as washing, peeling, chopping vegetables, and portioning ingredients.

  • Cleaning & Sanitization: Wash dishes, utensils, pots, and pans manually or using a commercial dishwasher. Wipe down counters, food prep tables, and cooking equipment.

  • Organization & Stocking: Assist with receiving, organizing, and storing food supplies, ingredients, and pantry items.

  • Meal Assembly: Help package meals for distribution for our food share program.

  • Waste Management: Help sweep and mop kitchen floors, clear recycling, and manage organic/trash disposal at the end of shifts.

  • Safety Standard Maintenance: Follow all food safety guidelines, wear appropriate protective gear (e.g., hairnets, aprons, gloves), and maintain hygiene standards.

   
Skills Required:

Qualifications & Requirements



  • Minimum Age: 18 years or older

  • Skills: Basic cooking knowledge or knife handling skills are helpful, but no prior experience is required-training will be provided!

  • Physical Capabilities: Ability to stand for periods of 3-4 hours and lift up to 25 lbs (11 kg).

  • Traits: Strong reliability, positive attitude, willingness to follow safety guidelines, and strong teamwork skills.

  • Certifications: Basic food safety handler training/certification is required

   
Skills Gained/Related Careers:

  • Gain hands-on kitchen and basic culinary skills.

  • Earn community service hours (verification letters provided upon request).

  • Network and connect with community members and local staff.

  • Enjoy complimentary meals or snacks during scheduled volunteer shifts.
