Description of Duties:

We are looking for a talented and enthusiastic henna artist to help bring smiles to our Unity in the Community BBQ! With approximately 150 attendees expected, this is a wonderful opportunity to add some fun and creativity to our event.



  • Arrive on time and set up your henna supplies at the station (canopy and seating for participants will already be set up).

  • Apply small, simple henna designs to participants' hands, arms, or other requested areas in a safe, sanitary, and timely manner.

  • Henna will be provided by the event; please bring your own applicators and any additional tools you prefer to work with.

  • Use the printed inspiration sheet provided by the event to help participants choose their design, keeping designs quick and simple to accommodate a steady flow of participants.

  • Communicate estimated wait times to participants and manage a line as needed if demand is high.

  • Follow basic hygiene practices, such as sanitizing hands between clients.

  • Be mindful of allergies or skin sensitivities; use only the natural henna provided.

  • Provide brief aftercare instructions (e.g., how long to leave the paste on, how to care for the design once dry).

  • Maintain a friendly, welcoming demeanor and represent the event positively while interacting with attendees, especially families and children.

  • Keep your workstation tidy and clean up supplies at the end of your shift or the event.

  • Notify event coordinators of any issues, such as running low on supplies or needing a break/replacement.

   
Skills Required:

  • Experience applying henna, with a steady hand and attention to detail

  • Ability to create clean, simple designs efficiently and consistently

  • Basic knowledge of henna application techniques (cones, applicator bottles, etc.)

  • Understanding of henna safety practices, including identifying and avoiding harmful "black henna" (PPD-based)

  • Awareness of hygiene and sanitation practices when working with multiple participants

  • Good time management to keep a steady flow of participants moving

  • Be friendly with strong communication and customer service skills, especially when working with children and families

  • Ability to work outdoors and adapt to a busy, informal event environment

  • Basic problem-solving skills to handle unexpected situations (e.g., a participant with a skin reaction, running low on supplies)
