Organizational Description: Forum Art Centre is a community arts centre in the heart of St. Boniface that has been active in Winnipeg for over 60 years! We offer an expanding range of art classes and workshops for adults, teens, preteens, and children (7+) in mediums such as painting, drawing, mixed media, and clay. As a registered charitable organization Forum Art Centre's mission is to be inclusive of anyone wanting to learn about art. By offering youth bursaries, free supplies to youth, a flexible pricing scale for all ages, and outreach art programs, we aim to minimize the barriers in accessing visual arts education.

Forum Art Centre also hosts several community art events each year, including student and instructor art shows, markets with local artists, and ongoing art and book sales!

Description of Duties:

Help shape the local arts landscape, champion accessibility, expand your network and connections, gain experience in governance, strategic planning, and policy development. Advocate for arts! We have over 30 art classes each week during regular sessions, successful exhibitions twice a year and a growing creative community of all ages.


Forum Art Centre is seeking to welcome new perspectives to our Board of Directors. A grant from The Winnipeg Foundation has provided us with funding to develop new programming that will offer free, high quality art workshops to underserved youth, newcomer and low-income families and low-income seniors. To best serve these populations, we need board members that represent these communities.


We are highly encouraging folks from one or more of the following backgrounds to consider applying:



  • Indigenous artists interested in mentoring new generations of Indigenous artists

  • Black artists, artists from other underrepresented cultural backgrounds and 2SLGBTQ+ artists

  • Folks with lived experience as underserved youth (houselessness, poverty, CFS intervention, intergenerational trauma)

  • Newcomer parents or caregivers

  • Low- income parents with young children

  • Low-income seniors who can speak to this population's needs

  • A commitment to the mission and values of the Forum Art Centre.

  • Strong communication skills

  • Able to work collaboratively with others

  • Leadership and decision-making skills

  • Adaptable with shifting priorities and skilled in creative problem solving

  • Connections in the local art community and/or non-profit sector


Desired:



  • Computer and digital literacy

  • Skilled in some visual art discipline

  • Experience with strategic planning

  • Financial literacy: adept at reading financial reports and experience with budgets

  • Professional experience in any of the following fields: law, human resources, insurance, accounting, bookkeeping, fundraising and philanthropy, marketing, or community leadership.

Time Commitment:
Flexible Hours

Estimated commitment: 5 hours per month.




  • Attend monthly board meetings, and further meetings as required if on a committee (finance, fundraising, or environmental committess)

  • Assist at events as available (art exhibitions, markets, open houses, fundraising events)

  • Assist with and promote fundraising campaigns

  • Help with building maintenance tasks (cleaning, painting, organizing, landscaping) - as available
