Description of Duties:

As a Volunteer Responder for the National Suicide Prevention phoneline, you'll be someone callers can count on during their hardest moments. You'll listen with care, ask meaningful questions to check safety, and guide people to helpful resources. This work takes a team - and your role is an important part of it.


Please note - this is a remote opportunity and all volunteering is done online. Applicants are required to have access to confidential workspace and need to meet minimum computer hardware and internet connection requirements.

   
Skills Required:

  • Good ability to stay focused and present during crisis situations.

  • Committed to trauma-informed, non-judgmental support.

  • Ability to work in a way that reflects and promotes Klinic's anti-oppressive, feminist, pro-choice values.

  • Open to learning and available to attend 100-hours ot training (some shorter options may be available for applicants with previous counselling expereince).

  • Good ability to care for your own emotional health while doing intense, emotional work.

  • Trauma-informed, person-centred crisis counselling using active listening and brief counselling skills grounded in empathy and empowerment.

  • Risk and suicide assessment skills.

  • The impact of sexual violence and trauma .

  • Feminist and anti-oppressive perspectives as a foundation for practice.

  • How to establish and maintain healthy professional boundaries.

  • Self-care in crisis work, including cultivating self-compassion and developing confidence in applying skills in practice.
