Organizational Description: The Winnipeg Regional Health Authority's (WRHA) Community Health and Corporate Services Volunteer Program provides meaningful public engagement, develops effective partnerships, mobilizes appropriate volunteer and community resources, supports a positive working environment and enhances the WRHA's capacity to support and deliver quality services.

Volunteers are placed in the community, supporting a variety of programs within Public Health, Primary Care and Corporate.

Description of Duties:

To provide support to staff and participants of the Healthy Start Community Support Program. The program offers families an opportunity to learn about nutrition, child development and general health and wellness.



  • Assist the WRHA public health dietitian, public health nurse, and Healthy Start outreach workers to set up the room and food/snack table, as needed.

  • Organize, prepare and serve snack and meal at groups and organize food preparation clean-up (e.g. dishwashing, putting away supplies and packaging leftover food) using safe food handling practices.

  • Assist families and staff with other duties as necessary.

  • Participate in team debrief (optional) at the end of group.

  • Communicate with dietitian and/or outreach staff regarding any challenges or issues

  • Assist with 'meal bag' explanation and demonstration to the group as requested

   
Skills Required:

  • Current nutrition student or equivalent experience required

  • Perform duties with minimal supervision

  • Ability and comfortable with approaching people in a friendly, supportive manner

  • Ability to understand, give direction and express oneself in English in a clear, concise manner

  • Physical requirements may include carrying, lifting and transporting: large hot pots

Shift: Tuesdays, 12:30pm to 4:30pm - successful applicant assigned weekly.
