Organizational Description: Habitat for Humanity Manitoba (HFHM) provides low-income families the opportunity of home ownership through its unique business model of offering no down payment,no interest mortgages. Monthly mortgage payments received by Habitat are used to purchase more land which enables donations to keep on giving - building more homes, more hope and more thriving communities. Description of Duties:

Habitat for Humanity Manitoba is seeking a volunteer to support the annual Meaning of Home Writing Contest for students in Grades 4, 5 and 6.


This national program encourages students to reflect on what "home" means to them while raising awareness and support for affordable housing initiatives. Every student who enters earns a $10 donation to their local Habitat for Humanity with their submission. In addition, three grand prize winners receive a $30,000 grant for their local Habitat. Runners-up win a $10,000 grant for their local Habitat.

This flexible volunteer opportunity is ideal for someone who enjoys organization, communication, and working with schools and community partners.


Key Responsibilities



  • Update and maintain school contact lists for Winnipeg and rural Manitoba schools

  • Send email communications and contest reminders to schools and homeschool contacts

  • Help track participating schools and outreach activities

  • Support mail merges, thank you letters, and classroom certificates

  • Assist with coordinating winner celebrations and classroom pizza parties if Manitoba has a contest winner

  • Help promote awareness of the contest within schools and communities
