Description of Duties:

Board Chair Duties


• Serves as the contact point for individual board members on board issues.


• Ensures that all board members are involved in committee activities and assigns committee chairs.


• Motivates board members to attend meetings and actively participate.


• Participates in evaluations of the Executive Director


• Ability to run a productive meeting.


General Duties


A Board member is expected to participate in deliberations and decisions regarding matters of strategic planning, finance, pre-employment programs, career development, human resources, proposal writing, social media promotion, and advocacy.




Each Board member will:



  1. Approve, where appropriate, policy and other recommendations received from the Board, standing committees, and Executive Director.

  2. Review the bylaws and policy manual and recommend bylaw changes.

  3. Review the Board's structure, approve changes, and prepare necessary bylaw amendments.

  4. Participate in the development of OVRC's organizational plan and annual review.

  5. Approve OVRC's budget, hire, and evaluate the Executive Director.

  6. Assist in building positive relationships among the Board, committees, and the Executive Director to enhance the OVRC's mission.

   
Skills Required:

  1. Organization of a Board consisting of a Chair, Vice-Chair, Treasurer, Secretary, and Members-at- Large.

  2. Commitment to the work of the OVRC.

  3. Knowledge and expertise in one or more areas of the Board governance: finance, pre-employment, employment programs and career development, human resources, proposal writing, social media promotion, and advocacy.

  4. Willingness to serve on committees and attend committee meetings.

  5. Attendance at monthly board meetings; repeated absences may result in a review of the Board member's standing.

  6. Attendance at Annual General Meetings.

  7. Commitment to maintaining the privacy of the OVRC data and client personal information unless permission has been obtained by the OVRC's corresponding staff and/or clients accordingly.

Remote Volunteering

The Board meets typically by Zoom every second Wednesday of each month. No meetings July & August.


In person at 1 - 107 Osborne 2 times per year.


There is extra hours needed at times to complete Board tasks.
