Description of Duties:

The Manitoba Writers' Guild seeks enthusiastic volunteers to act as Competition Coordinators. This fulfilling role includes promoting writing competitions, managing entries and judges, and assisting with the editing and publication of the Guild's anthology, Beyond Boundaries. The volunteers will also help organize a hybrid awards gala celebrating outstanding writers. Contact mwgrdf1981@gmail.com

   
Skills Required:

Skills required would include the ability to:
- communicate effectively with team members & delegate jobs when necessary
- work with the promotion team to get information sent out in a timely manner
- organize submissions and pass along to judges
- editing skills
- plan the gala event with an in-person as well as a virtual component
- prepare a budget for the gala to be submitted for approval to the Board of Directors and Financial team
- volunteer time can largely be done remotely

   
Skills Gained/Related Careers:

The volunteer position of Competition Coordinator would provide experience for those interested in working in the non-profit Arts sector in such roles as Event Coordinator or Executive Director. With the editing component, those in the Coordinator position would gain skills that publishers might find useful.

Our competitions take place during the Winter and Spring with some preparation time required before the call for submissions goes out. More time and effort is required as submissions are being received and passed onto the jurors. While the jurors deliberate, the Coordinator will spend their time planning the gala.
