Organizational Description: Community Roots Resource Centre (CRRC) is a family resource centre located in North Kildonan. It exists as a gathering place--a place to receive support, resources and to belong-and is an environment where community members feel valued and marginalized voices are amplified.

CRRC strives to understand the strengths and challenges of the community, to uncover new ways to care for and support each other and to deliver supportive services, walking alongside the individuals and families in the neighborhood.

CRRC's mission is to support community building by providing programs and resources that nourish the body, mind and soul in a loving, encouraging environment. CRRC's primary goal is to provide programs that continually meet community needs.

Currently, CRRC operates a 12 family community kitchen, a 3,500 sq ft community garden and a 5 day a week emergency pantry to meet the food security needs in the community. Adult programs (such as wellness and self care programs, coffee time drop in programs, yoga, counseling, etc) and children's programs (such as after school drop in programs, summer camp, etc.) are offered to build social connections, improve mental health and meet the need for emotional support. Community events (such as community dinners, skating, etc) are offered to meet the need for community connections and seasonal celebrations (such as a Christmas store, Christmas dinner, etc.) are offered to build connections and relieve the financial needs that often arise at that time of year.

Description of Duties:

As Treasurer, you will play a key role in ensuring the financial health and sustainability of CRRC. The role combines strategic oversight with practical involvement in key financial processes, including approvals and monitoring. You'll focus on insight, accountability, and collaboration, supported by a bookkeeper who manages day-to-day accounting.


You'll work closely with the Executive Director and the Board Executive to help guide sound financial decisions, ensure compliance, and provide confidence in our financial stewardship.


Financial Leadership & Oversight



  • Prepare and present monthly financial reports to the Board, highlighting trends, risks and considerations

  • Monitor the organization's (and the individual program's) financial position, cash flow, and overall sustainability

  • Support the development, preparation and oversight of the annual budget

  • Provide guidance to the bookkeeper responsible for day-to-day financial operations (QuickBooks Online)

  • Liaise with CRRC's external accountant

  • Lead the Finance Committee


Operational Support



  • Approve monthly timesheets for contract staff

  • Review and approve all program budgets included in grant applications

  • Review grant allocations and ensure funds are being used as intended

  • Approve expenses charged to grants and authorize payment of key bills

  • Act as one of the signing authorities for contracts, cheques, and financial documents


Compliance & Accountability



  • Ensure financial records are accurate and aligned with generally accepted accounting practices (in collaboration with the bookkeeper and external accountant)

  • Support timely CRA filings and other regulatory requirements

  • Participate in the annual audit process, including recommending and working with the auditor

   
Skills Required:

  • A background in finance, accounting, or a related field (CPA or equivalent experience preferred)

  • Knowledge of Excel

  • Strong analytic and communication skills

  • Familiarity with tools like QuickBooks Online is an asset

  • A collaborative mindset and sound judgment

  • A genuine interest in supporting the community and helping CRRC meet the evolving needs of those we serve
