Organizational Description: Challenger Baseball is an adaptive baseball program specifically designed for youth and adults living with physical and/or cognitive disabilities. The program is designed to teach athletes the core skills inherent to baseball, including teamwork, communication, determination, resiliency, and courage. Challenger Baseball ensures every athlete has the opportunity to play in a fun, safe, and supportive environment where they learn independence, connection, build confidence and self esteem. We remove barriers to create an inclusive community where athletes are valued and celebrated.

Description of Duties:

Challenger Baseball Manitoba is looking for volunteer buddies for the 2026 Spring baseball Season.


As a buddy, you will be paired with 1-2 athletes, helping them participate in a baseball game while encouraging independence, teamwork, helping them reach their goals, and have fun. No prior baseball experience is required - just enthusiasm and a willingness to be a mentor, cheerleader, and friend.


All Buddies 18 and over require a valid Vulnerable Sector Check and Child Abuse Check.


When: Saturdays 10:00 am, May 2/26 to June 20/26 (8 weeks)


Where: Options include Garden City Community Centre, Crescentwood Community Centre, Optimist Park (West Winnipeg), East St Paul Baseball Complex, and 17 Wing base.

   
Skills Required:

Expectations of a buddy



  • Arrive 15 minutes early. Time commitment is 60-90 minutes per week

  • Buddies will be provided a buddy t-shirt

  • Support and encourage your athlete

  • Help your athlete to stay safe and focused

  • Model positive behavior and sportsmanship

  • Step back and encourage independence

  • No prior baseball skills required
