Organizational Description: The Winnipeg Regional Health Authority's (WRHA) Community Health and Corporate Services Volunteer Program provides meaningful public engagement, develops effective partnerships, mobilizes appropriate volunteer and community resources, supports a positive working environment and enhances the WRHA's capacity to support and deliver quality services.

Volunteers are placed in the community, supporting a variety of programs within Public Health, Primary Care and Corporate.

Description of Duties:

Shifts: Mondays OR Tuesdays - 12:30pm to 4:30pm - successful applicants assigned one shift weekly


Wayfinding



  • Greet, provide information to clients upon arrival at the Access River East.

  • Provide directions and escort clients as required.

  • Wayfinders do not provide advice or counsel clients. All patient-related situations should be forwarded to the appropriate staff member.

  • Notify Security (located on site on the 2nd floor reception area) of any unusual occurrences.

  • Communicate any non-urgent concerns and service improvement suggestions to placement supervisor.


Support Assist


Projects coordinated by or where the Program/Team Manager is responsible may include:



  • Assemble and organize packages for various programs i.e. Homecare

  • Assist with providing supplies to Home Care Direct Service Staff.

  • Assembling blank charts for Home Care and Home Care Nursing clients.

Skills Required:

  • Friendly personality and a genuine interest in helping others with effective interpersonal communication skills.

  • Ability to understand, take and give directions and express oneself in English in a clear, concise manner.

  • Physically able to stand for extended periods of time, walk distances and provide patients with wheelchairs as needed. Note: Volunteers do not assist with pushing wheelchairs and/or other transfer aides.

  • Conscientious, organized and attention to detail.

  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.

  • Physically able to perform tasks, this includes but is not limited to the following: manual dexterity, ability to bend down to file materials into cabinets, ability to operate photocopier.

  • Respectful of diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds of patients and their family members.

  • Attend orientation and ongoing training as required.
