| Organizational Description: | The purpose of the South Interlake Seniors Resource Council (SISRC) is to assist senior and disabled persons who reside in Stonewall and parts of the rural municipalities of Rosser, Rockwood and Woodlands to continue living independently and with dignity in their own homes for as long as possible by putting together a cadre of well trained, willing and cheerful volunteers to assist those requiring either transportation, home visits, housecleaning, short term mobility equipment loans, access to lifeline program or resource information The South Interlake Seniors Resource Council is governed by a volunteer board made up of members of the communities that it serves. Board members are appointed/elected at the annual meeting of the Council. The Board meets monthly with the exception of July and August. |

| Description of Duties: | Driver/Escort Service This service provides people with the ability to get to where they need to go when they no longer are able to drive themselves. For example, medical appointments, shopping trips or to go and visit a family or friends. Volunteers, use their own vehicles and are reimbursed for the cost of gas and parking by the person being driven. If needed the volunteer driver will also help to carry parcels, open heavy doors or will offer an arm to escort a person to and from their destination. Objective: ○ To offer a transportation system to seniors and people with mobility impairments living in the town of Method: ○ The client will be responsible for contacting the resource office an requesting service, preferably 2 days in advance. ○ A coordinator will be responsible for filling the request. ○ The driver will be responsible for transporting the client from point A to Point B and back home again. ○ Transportation will be available for local and out of area destinations. Clients: ○ Anyone over the age of 55 or anyone of any age who is mobility impaired and lives in the service area. ○ The client will be required to pay a user fee. This fee will cover the cost of fuel. ○ The client will also pay for any parking fee that applies. . |
| Skills Required: | Volunteers: ○ Volunteers are required to complete a Criminal Record check, Adult Abuse Registry Check (ADD),PHIA (Pledge of Confidentiality) and provide a current driver's abstract (available through MPI), the cost of which will be reimbursed by the SISRC, before services begin. ○ All volunteers will be given a copy of the volunteer manual and will receive orientation prior to service delivery. ○ Volunteers must hold a valid driver's license. ○ Volunteers must have a properly insured vehicle. ○ Must display a respectful and courteous manner. |
