The Eco-Network undertakes various projects to achieve our mission of promoting good environmental governance, supporting and building capacity, advocating for environmental justice, and acting as a bridge between environmental organizations, the public, and all levels of government.

Description of Duties:

The Manitoba Eco-Network is looking for extroverted, dedicated, well-spoken volunteers to join our volunteer Spring/Summer events team!


The 2026 schedule will include several public facing volunteer opportunities including tabling at public events, farmers markets, and other community outreach opportunities. Events may be indoor or outdoor depending on location. The spring/summer volunteer session will run from March 2026 - August 2026.


Volunteers should be able to answer questions about the Manitoba Eco-Network. Knowledge will include our organizational history, past work, and background for our ongoing community-led projects. (Information will be provided via onboarding process).


Volunteer duties will include:



  • Assisting in the preparation of event materials to be transported from office

  • Table/booth setup

  • Public outreach throughout the duration of the event

  • Packing all equipment and materials out at the end of the event

  • Assisting in the return of all equipment/materials to the office

  • Completing a brief "end of shift" report


The Manitoba Eco-Network encourages candidates of all physical abilities to apply. Physical accessibility needs can be discussed with your Volunteer Coordinator and/or Executive Director so that shift schedules can be designed to meet individual needs. (Ex: Volunteers who may need a mobility device can request to only be scheduled shifts at accessible venues).

   
Skills Required:

Volunteers should be comfortable with public speaking. Experience volunteering and/or working outdoors is considered an asset. Strong organizational and communication skills are required as is the ability to work with minimal / no supervision.


Volunteer requirements:



  • Candidates must hold a valid Provincial Photo ID

  • Candidates must have a method of reliable transportation.*
    *Public transportation is acceptable with the understanding that volunteers assume 100% responsibility of arriving at their shift on time.

  • Be able to commit to a minimum of one 3 hr volunteer shift per week.


Being able to lift objects up to 50lbs. (Only considered a requirement for volunteers who do not require a physical mobility device).

   
Skills Gained/Related Careers:

The Manitoba Eco-Network facilitates many intersectional environmental projects that involve partnerships across diverse sectors. We work to bridge the gaps between Provincial and Municipal Governments and our community partners. Many of those partnerships include local Environmental Non-Profits, Community Renewal Organizations, Indigenous Environmental organizations, and many others.


Skills and experience gained through Volunteering for the Eco-Network will include:



  • Experience in organizational public outreach

  • Experience in localized community engagement

  • Ability to assist in coordination of public events

  • Experience in working with environmental non-profit(s)

  • Experience working outdoors


Volunteers will receive a signed letter of reference provided from MbEN senior leadership, at the discretion of Manitoba Eco-Network Executive Director James Beddome.

Volunteers will participate in events that average 3-4 hours in length, with the possibility for longer 'day' events based on availability.


All volunteer candidates must be able to commit to a minimum of one 3-hour volunteer shift per week across the duration of the season.
