Description of Duties:

Description of Duties


Volunteers supporting the Black Mental Health and Recovery event will play a key role in ensuring a welcoming, organized, and respectful experience for all participants. Under the direction of the event coordinator, volunteers will be responsible for the following duties:




  • Welcoming participants upon arrival in a respectful, inclusive, and professional manner



  • Confirming participant registration, including checking names against the registration list



  • Distributing name tags and event kits/materials to participants during registration and throughout the event, as required



  • Directing attendees to appropriate locations within the venue, such as seating areas, presentation rooms, registration desks, and washrooms



  • Providing general event information, including the event schedule, session locations, and accessibility supports



  • Supporting crowd flow and organization, ensuring smooth movement of participants throughout the venue



  • Assisting presenters and facilitators, when requested, with logistical needs (e.g., guiding participants, distributing materials)



  • Responding appropriately to questions or concerns by referring attendees to the event coordinator when needed



  • Maintaining a safe, trauma-informed, and respectful environment, recognizing the sensitive nature of mental health discussions



  • Following all venue guidelines and event protocols, including privacy, safety, and accessibility requirements of the Canadian Museum for Human Rights

Volunteers are expected to arrive at 9:00 a.m. for preparation and a brief orientation meeting. Participant welcoming and registration will begin at 11:00 a.m., and the event will conclude at 4:00 p.m. Volunteers are expected to remain on site until event wrap-up is complete.
