Public Representative - Board of Directors or Committee

The College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Manitoba (CLPNM) is the professional regulatory body for licensed practical nurses (LPNs) in Manitoba.

The CLPNM is seeking public representatives for potential appointment to its

-Board of Directors,
-Investigation Committee, or
-Discipline Committee.

Each of these bodies is comprised of both LPNs and public representatives.

Public representatives:

-contribute to public protection
-support quality nursing care
-serve Manitobans by helping to regulate one of its largest health professions.

Experience in law, investigations, regulation, and/or board governance is an asset but not necessary. No nursing experience is required.

Individuals with Indigenous ancestry are strongly encouraged to apply.

Other desired attributes:
-Willingness to uphold the public interest mandate of the CLPNM
-High standards of ethics and integrity
-Strong interpersonal communication
-Critical thinking skills
-Commitment to participating in orientation and on-going education as required
-Commitment to preparing for and attending meetings as per the pre-determined schedule
-Open-mindedness
-Commitment to upholding the concept of the board/committee "speaking with one voice" once decisions are made
-No conflict of interest with the mandate of the CLPNM
-Willingness to serve a term of 2 or 3 years, beginning June, 2026.

Per the CLPNM By-Laws, the following individuals are ineligible for appointment due to the potential for a conflict of interest:
-employees of the CLPNM;
-individuals with any union affiliation, other than that required for employment;
-individuals who are board members, committee members, or employed by a professional nursing association;
-individuals who hold employment positions as managers of LPNs and who are responsible for employee hiring, evaluations, discipline or terminations;
-individuals who are current members of a regulated health profession;
-individuals who have been convicted of an indictable offence.

Public representatives have the opportunity to learn about professional regulation, professional standards, procedural fairness, and board governance.
