Description of Duties:

The primary responsibility of this volunteer role is to provide language interpretation between English and one of the following languages:



  • Chinese (Mandarin or Cantonese)

  • Ukrainian

  • Tagalog (Filipino)


Volunteers will:



  • Provide verbal interpretation between English and their assigned language during community events, workshops, meetings, and outreach activities.

  • Facilitate clear and accurate communication between participants, staff, and community members.

  • Help individuals understand information about HSDE Canada programs, services, and events.

  • Assist with participant registration and community engagement when interpretation is needed.

  • Maintain confidentiality and interpret information accurately, impartially, and respectfully.

  • Support an inclusive and welcoming environment for individuals with diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds.

  • Perform other volunteer-related duties as assigned by the HSDE Canada team.

Skills Required:

  • Fluency in English and at least one of the following languages:

  • Ability to interpret accurately and clearly between English and the assigned language.

  • Respect for confidentiality and professionalism.

  • Cultural awareness and sensitivity when working with diverse communities.

  • Friendly, reliable, and respectful attitude.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and community members.

  • Previous interpretation or community volunteer experience is an asset but is not required
