Description of Duties:

HSDE Canada is seeking dedicated volunteer English teachers to assist immigrants, refugees, and newcomers in Winnipeg. Volunteers will help participants develop English language skills to improve their integration into Canadian society. This role is critical in supporting newcomers' social, professional, and academic success by providing them with the language tools they need to navigate daily life, education, and employment.


Key Responsibilities:
- Language Instruction:
- Teach basic and intermediate English, focusing on reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills.
- Develop and implement lesson plans based on students' needs, language levels, and goals.
- Provide tutoring and personalized instruction to students struggling with particular concepts.


- *Cultural Orientation:*
- Incorporate lessons on Canadian culture, social norms, and everyday language use.
- Provide information on local services and resources (e.g., public transportation, healthcare, education).

- Mentorship and Support:
- Serve as a mentor by offering guidance, encouragement, and emotional support.
- Help students build confidence in using English in practical settings such as workplaces, schools, and social interactions.

- Administrative Support:
- Track student progress and attendance.
- Report feedback and challenges to the Program Coordinator.
- Assist with organizing materials, resources, and learning activities.

   
Skills Required:

Qualifications:
- Fluent in English (both written and spoken).
- TEFL/TESL certification (preferred but not required).
- Experience teaching or tutoring, especially English as a Second Language (ESL).
- Patience, empathy, and a strong desire to help newcomers adjust to life in Canada.
- Good organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds
