Description of Duties:

We welcome new volunteers who are eager to support a local festival in celebration of the fibre arts (wool, yarn, knitting/crochet, and more) and local textiles.


We are currently seeking an Assistant for Workshop Coordination.


Works with and reports to Workshop Coordinator


Timeframe: January to September


The Workshop Assistant will assist in planning and overseeing workshops at the Manitoba Fibre Festival to ensure a smooth and positive experience for instructors and students. This role requires some hands-on work, excellent communication skills and strong organizational skills to support a diverse range of activities. This position is not suitable for someone who is a vendor at the Festival.


Tasks


Preparation


Assist with identifying potential class topics and instructors


Assist with workshop proposal intake and workshop selection


Assist with instructor communication to settle logistics and prepare instructor contracts


Assist with preparing workshop promotional content for website and socials


Assist with maintaining email contact with instructors and students as needed


Attend organizational planning meetings


During Festival


General workshop support during the Festival: room set up, greeting instructors, working with volunteer team, checking in on workshops to ensure positive experience for all


Assist with workshop classroom clean up at the end of the Festival


Post Festival


Assist with student and instructor follow up (thanks, feedback)


Assist with compiling workshop feedback (coordinator notes, surveys)


Requirements:


Be onsite during the festival Friday and Saturday (not a vendor)


Willing to work with volunteers and workshop coordinator


Our event takes place at the Red River Exhibition hall on Friday Sept 11 and Saturday Sept 12, with set up Thursday Sept 10.

   
Skills Required:

This role requires some hands-on work, excellent communication skills and strong organizational skills to support a diverse range of activities. This position is not suitable for someone who is a vendor at the Festival.
