Description of Duties:

GLOCAL Foundation of Canada (www.glocalfoundation.ca) is a remote, non-partisan nonprofit dedicated to strengthening digital civic engagement in Canada and abroad. We offer flexible volunteer roles that let you develop and apply skills across Research, Communications, Outreach, Digital Design, Data, and Compliance. Volunteers gain hands-on experience, build new competencies, and contribute their knowledge to meaningful, impact-driven projects. GLOCAL also provides opportunities for professional development, volunteer hour accumulation, workshops (in-person and remote), and the chance to lead your own initiatives.


As a self-driven volunteer, you will collaborate with GLOCAL teams to gather information, support research activities, and contribute to reports on Canadian social, civic, and community issues.

Volunteer Responsibilities:


Conduct research to understand national, regional, and local contexts, including community needs, policy developments, and political trends.


Support GLOCAL's public-facing work by assisting with social media, creating infographics, and producing short-form content on social issues.


Participate in community engagement and outreach activities to strengthen local connections.


Collect, analyze, and present data through visualizations, summaries, and written insights.


Build networks and develop skills across data and digital innovation, research, compliance, communications, and outreach.

   
Skills Required:

Successful applicants will have the following qualifications:



  • Good oral and written communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

  • A passion for creative writing, community engagement and partnerships development.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Excel.

  • Strong intercultural understanding.

  • Ability to meet deadlines and thrive in a fast-paced, flexible environment.

  • Ability to work both independently and within a team environment.

  • Professionalism, punctuality, and reliability.

   
Skills Gained/Related Careers:

Volunteers develop practical, transferable skills by working directly with GLOCAL's cross-disciplinary teams. Through project work, mentorship, and exclusive training sessions, you will strengthen:



  • Research and analytical skills, including policy scanning and data interpretation

  • Writing and communication abilities for both internal and public-facing outputs

  • Data visualization, basic analytics, and digital literacy

  • Creative content development, including infographic design and short-form messaging

  • Community outreach, stakeholder engagement, and project coordination

  • Professional judgment, time management, and collaborative problem solving


GLOCAL also maintains a network of professionals across all six volunteer tracks (Research, Communications, Outreach, Digital Design, Data, and Compliance). Volunteers regularly connect with experienced practitioners, learn from their domain expertise, and receive guidance to deepen their skills or explore new interdisciplinary areas.
